1950's Jaeger Le Coultre Futurematic Gents Bumper Automatic Dress Watch
Initially introduced in 1953 by Jaeger Le Coultre this was the first watch ever without a crown to wind the movement this is an E501 the watch includes a Power Reserve Indicator at 9 o'clock and a second indicator and the three o'clock mark . The back of the case features a winder which you are instructed to slide not lift, it took us a few minutes to gingerly learn how to set the watch !
It's not only a JLC curio, but in trying to create this watch the legend has it that so over engineered was the movement that it nearly bankrupted the company. In 1959 a mere 6 years after introduction JLC scrapped them.
This watch was made for the American market, the case is 10K Gold Filled throughout and is in very good overall condition, the dial is immaculate and shows no sign of ageing.
Inside the case is a Calibre 497 17 Jewel Swiss Lever Automatic Movement signed Le Coultre.
This watch is not water resistant
Cosmetically Overall this is in very good condition recently serviced and running well.
