In the space of about a century, the American Watch Industry arrived, flourished and then died. It’s an immense story which has yet to be told in depth, but at one-point American Watch brands out produced the Swiss, in fact Swiss Watchmaking would still be a cottage industry without the Americans industrialising the manufacturing processes to produce affordable but high-quality watches in quantity.
 

The Americans were also masters of innovation, design and marketing. Brands like Bulova, Hamilton, Illinois, Waltham, Elgin, Gruen, Benrus, Helbros and others were responsible for some amazing timepieces.
